Obituary of Jean Phillips

Mrs. Norma Jean (Cook) Phillips, age 64, died at her home in Columbia, SC on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Jean was born on August 12, 1947 in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late Norman and Elsie Cook. She was a devoted wife, mother and friend, whose priority in life was her family. Her greatest joy was in spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Harold Phillips; her three sons and their spouses, Bill & Charlene Ernst, Bubba & Melissa Ernst, and Troy & Amanda Ernst; her step-son, Keith Phillips; her brothers, David Cook, Johnny Simmons and Jerry Simmons; her sisters Patsy Timm and Cathy Thomas; grandchildren Samantha, Payton, Sydney, Blair, and Marie; and great-grandchildren Kayden and Hanna. The family would like to extend a personal thank you to Dr. Terry Smith and the staff at South Carolina Oncology, as well as the nurses and staff of the 11th Floor West at Palmetto Richland Memorial for the care they provided Mrs. Phillips. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at The First Church of God, with interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenlawn Funeral Home. The family requests that memorials be made in her name to the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance. www.ovariancancer.org
