Memorials may be made to St. David Lutheran Church, the Alzheimers Association, or the charity of one's choice. Mrs. Price died May 24, 2012. She was born January 22, 1923, in Columbia, a daughter of Cora Geiger and Ernest Henry Marsh. Mrs. Price graduated as valedictorian from Lexington High School, Class of 1940. There she met her future husband, John B. (J.B.) Price. Married December 13, 1941, they were then separated for thirty-eight months as Mr. Price served in World War II. Raised a Methodist, Mrs. Price became a Lutheran at marriage. Teaching Sunday School at St. David Lutheran Church for many years to many different ages, Mrs. Price believed that no matter how much a person knows about Christian faith, there is more to be learned. Many of her students left the classroom stating that they had learned so much, they probably didn't have to go to church! She was a member of the Boozer Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Morning Bible Study Group. She served for many years on the Social Missions Committee and the Global Missions Committee. She was a W.E.L.C.A. life member of the Ruth Group. Mrs. Price made beautiful Chrismon ornaments (Christian symbols) to give to others for their Christmas trees and was always willing to discuss their meanings. After her husband's death in 2002, Mrs. Price looked for a new way to spend her time, and she developed the Birthday Call Ministry of St. David where everyone got a personal call from her on their birthday. She also made phone calls weekly to the sick. Together with her husband, they owned and operated R&W Tire Service of Lexington, where they made many lasting friends. After retirement, they took great joy in traveling with travel club friends throughout the United States, Mexico, and Europe. During the final six years of their 60 years of marriage, her husband was confined to a nursing home, and Mrs. Price spent every day at his side. She believed deeply in the power of prayer, and was constantly concerned for the safety of children, for returning to the strength of the family unit, for the many hungry and suffering throughout the world, for those that feel helpless as well as hopeless, and for spreading the Gospel to a confused and troubled world. Mrs. Price taught her children and grandchildren that everything one does in life is an experience; it may be good or bad, but it will always be a learning experience Mrs. Price was an excellent seamstress, making most of her clothes and her daughter's during her early years of homemaking. Mrs. Price is famous throughout the community for her cooking abilities, most recipes "in her memory" done without measure. Anyone who was ever at her home around a holiday remembers buffets laden with wonderful cakes, pies, breads, and all the food one could imagine. Her favorite pastime was whipping up something in the kitchen for all to share, and she spent countless hours cooking and baking. Many of her desserts and breads went to others' homes for their enjoyment. Mrs. Price will be remembered for her unfailing love and complete devotion to her husband, family, church and friends. She will be sorely missed by her children and grandchildren. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Marcia (Frank) Robinson; son and daughter-in-law, Bryan (Leah) Price; grandchildren, Christopher Price, Jonathan Robinson, of Lexington, Whitney (Chip) Moore of Prosperity, and Metta Price of Lexington; sister-in-law Dorothy Hodge of Manteo, N.C.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Lucy Jacobs, Eugenia Gainey, and Lenora Livingston. The family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the caregivers of National Health Care of Lexington for their genuine concern and unfailing devotion to Mrs. Price's care during her illness. In her own words to all of us each and every time we parted, "Bye Darlin, Be Sweet".
