I met Mr Gaines at our garage sale (2006). He needed a hand with his PC and I volanteered to help him out.
I spent alot of time at his home before I took a contract out of state. He told me about the pump in the back yard he used to get payed a nickel to run water from the river to the VA hospital. He had noticed some old soil seives I had used for a end table. We both had a background in engineering and we hit it off. He truly loved his profession and missed being a part of it. I wish I could have visited him more over the years. I would love to have one more chat. We need to talk to the elderly before they leave so their history remains. He was a very interesting gentleman. My belated condolances to his family.

The Robert H. Richmond Family sends its condolences and remembers Sidney as a most wonderful and helpful man, who would drop everything to help someone in need. The best "in-law" for which one could ask.

I was sorry to hear about Sidney. His father, Mr. M.L. was a pioneer in the water and sewer business installing most of the water and sewer lines in Columbia. Mr. M.L. and my father, Barney, were very good friends.
During WWII my Uncle Eddie was stationed in Miami with Sidney and he could tell some great stories about their escapades during that time.
Sidney followed in his father's footsteps and I had many enjoyable conversations with Sidney throughtout the years.
