Obituary of Winnie Brown

WEST COLUMBIA—A graveside service for Winnie McCutcheon Brown, 84, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012 in Scranton United Methodist Church Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Carey McElveen. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made in her honor to Harmony Care Hospice, 121 Hunter Village Drive, #H, Irmo, SC 29063. Mrs. Brown passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012 after a valiant battle with cancer. Born in Florence County, she was the daughter of the late John Jake McCutcheon and Carrie Irene Evans McCutcheon. She had been an area resident since 1999, formerly of Scranton. She was owner and operator of Brown's Superette in Scranton until her retirement. Surviving are her daughter, Carolyn White (Johnny) of Florence; son, Jimmy L. Brown (Elaine) of Lexington; grandchildren, Jay White (Andrea) of Columbia and Craig White (Dawn) of Florence; a great-grandchild, Claudia White of Columbia; sister, Elma "Dee" Jones "Mutt" of John's Island; brother, Harold "Bubba" McCutcheon of Effingham and a host of nieces and nephews and special friend, Betty Powers. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen "Kat" Gardner and three brothers, Barney Evans, Windle Evans and Carl Evans.
