Obituary of Lee Furtick

Sandy Run: Lee Jackson "Jackie" Furtick, III finished his time in history and began his time in eternity on Monday June 11, 2012. Born March 9, 1942 in Columbia, S.C. he was the son of the late Lee Jackson "Jack" Furtick, Jr. and the late Doris Sue Lott Furtick. He was a graduate of Brookland Cayce High School and Palmer Business College. He served as a member of the South Carolina Air National Guard and was the owner of Sandy Run Farms; a family run on-farm dairy processing business. Known simply as "Pop" to his grandchildren, he was famous for his All-Jersey chocolate milk, ice cream and egg-nog. He served as a lay leader in the United Methodist Church and was an active member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Swansea, S.C. Counted among his lifetime achievements, Jackie was the founder of the Sandy Run Station 31 Volunteer Fire Department and the founding member of the Sandy Run Rural Water District. During his thirty five years of service as a volunteer firefighter at Station 31 Jackie served as both Chief and Fire Marshall. During his time on earth Jackie's life was marked by devotion to his faith, his family and his friends. Jackie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nora Ann Raley Furtick, daughter Leigh Ann Furtick Randall, son-in-law Dr. Daniel Christian Randall, grandsons William Furtick Randall and Hampton Teague Randall, sisters and brothers-in-law Jerome and Lee Raley, John and Joanne Raley, Bonnie and Larry Jordan, and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 13 from 6-8 PM at Thompson Funeral Home in West Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 14 at 11:00 AM at Calvary United Methodist Church in Swansea, S.C., officiated by Reverend Deborah Gibson and Reverend Bruce Rucker. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Sgt. First Class Paul Jordan, U.S. Army, Tracy Raley, James Bowers, Brent Raley, Chad Rawls and Gary Geiger. Honorary pallbearers will be Sandy Run, Calhoun County Station 31. Memorials may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund at P.O. Box 148, Swansea, S.C. 29160.
