Obituary of Bertha Sturkie

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Bertha Driggers Sturkie, 94, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Pastor James Thrower. Interment will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be John Adkins, Bobby Gunter, Larry Williams, Jr., Greg Parker, Mario Manfre, Jeff M. Sturkie, Sr., Michael Manfre and Stan Shivers. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Agape Hospice House, 141 Stoneridge Dr., Columbia, SC 29210. Mrs. Sturkie widow of Finley Greene and Roy Sincore; and beloved wife of Carl Sturkie, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Born in Calhoun County, SC, she was a daughter of the late David Derrick Driggers and Daisy Stabler Driggers. She was a loving mother, wife, sister, grandmother and friend. Her favorite saying was "I have the most wonderful loving husband in the world". She will be greatly missed. Surviving are her husband, Carl Sturkie of West Columbia; daughters, Daisy Anne Manfre (Bernard) of Saylorsburg, PA and Bessie Chris Williams (Larry) of Cayce; son, Roy Sincore (Jewel) of West Columbia; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren; also many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Sturkie was preceded in death by daughter, Sadie Patricia Parker, son, David O'Neal Greene and sister, Bessie Poole.
