Obituary of Colie Spires

Colie E. Spires SANDY RUN: Funeral Services for Colie Eugene Spires, 75, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Sandy Run, SC , conducted by Reverend Mark Anthony Altman and his son-in-law Steve O. Hallman. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 2349 Old State Rd., Swansea, SC 29160 or to Palmetto Health Hospice, P.O. Box 7275, Columbia, SC 29201. Mr. Spires passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Born in Pelion, SC, he was a son of the late Colie Blease Spires and Evelyn McDaniel Spires. He was a U.S. Army Veteran; and he was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church. He was married for 55 years to the love of his life, Ann Wolfe Spires; the last 18 years of which she was his caretaker along with the help of his daughters and extended family. Mr. Spires's heart was his daughters and especially his grandchildren. Mr. Spires was an avid Gamecock fan. Survivors are: his loving wife, Ann Wolfe Spires; daughters Dianne Spires Coker (Jeff) of Sandy Run and Donna Spires Hallman (Steve) of Springdale; sister, Julene Sharpe (Ronnie) of Swansea; brother, Ricky Spires (Lynn) of Swansea; four grandchildren, Kayla and Chase Coker of Sandy Run and Katie and Coltin Hallman of Springdale; sister-in-law, Julia Bradshaw; and brother-in-law, Billy Wolfe. Mr. Spires was preceded in death by brothers Jack and James Spires.
