Obituary of Margaret Zeigler

A celebration of life service for Margaret Gandy Zeigler, 93, will be held at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Thursday, August 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Margaret Zeigler was born June 27, 1919, to Harriet Friday Gandy and Frank LeRoy Gandy on Bay Corner Farm, Dovesville, SC. As a youth she won a 4-H contest in Sewing and represented Darlington County in Washington, DC where she met Eleanor Roosevelt. She attended Winthrop College and was the first director of Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) Kindergarten from 1963-1974. She was very active in church work at Rose Hill PCA and Covenant PCA. She served as the Women In the Church Palmetto Presbytery president as well as Rose Hill PCA WIC president. She was active in Girl Scouts and a Cub Scout den leader as well as a PTA president. She was a member of the DAR, Midland?s Book Club, Blue Goose Auxiliary, Midlands Master Gardeners and three bridge clubs. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, William B. Zeigler, Sr. She is survived by their children, Margaret (Peggy) Z. Dodds (David) of Columbia, Barbara Z. Gladden (Dean) of Rock Hill, William B. Zeigler, Jr. (Peggy) of Irmo, and John A. Zeigler, III (Cherie) of Lake Carolina and six grandchildren, Alex, Nicholas, Chelsea and Daytona Zeigler, Russell Gladden, and Lauren Z. Brooks and six great grandchildren. She enjoyed her gardening and most of all she loved her family. Memorials may be made to Covenant Classical Christian School, 3120 Covenant Road, Columbia, SC 29204. The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff of Agape at Kathwood and Agape Hospice.
