Obituary of Robert Baker

GASTON—Funeral services for Robert "Bobby" Baker, 63, of Gaston, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Officiating will be Larry Davis. Burial will be held at 1 p.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Mr. Baker beloved husband of Sylvia Ann Gamble Baker, passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2012. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Riley Marcellus Baker and Willah Mae Gilmore Baker. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in North. He retired from the United State Army after 22 years of devoted service as a chemical specialist. He was also a Vietnam Veteran. He retired from Lowes. He was an avid bowler, loved fishing and NASCAR. Surviving in addition to his wife, Sylvia G. Baker of Gaston; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" Wolfe (Brian) of Greer; sons, Eric "Scott" Baker (Tonya) of Gilbert and Robert "Clay" Baker (Kim) of Gaston; grandchildren, Jordan, Austin, Ally, Abbie, Riley, Wyatt, Kasey and Garrett; siblings, Clayton "Buddy" Baker of Branchville, Marcellus Ann Bolen of Ellabelle, GA and Thomas C. Baker of Orangeburg.
