Obituary of Edward Knight

Edward C. Knight went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, August 26, 2012. Born on September 12, 1919, to G.C. and Maude Rucker Knight in Sandy Run, SC, he was the third of their six children. After serving in the U. S. Army during World War II, he graduated from the University of South Carolina and worked with the U. S. Health Department in Arkansas. Then Ed and his wife Christine returned to his beloved Sandy Run where they have lived since. Ed retired from the SC Department of Mental Health. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a lifelong member of Beulah Methodist Church, a founding member of American Legion Post # 156, a founding member of the Sandy Run Museum and Cultural Center, a Mason and the local historian. Ed "Jake" was predeceased by all his siblings: Gladys Shirey, Woodrow "Woody," Charlie "Box," Jim "Boone," and Lemuel "Smick" Knight. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife Christine; sons and daughters-in law, Eddie and Collette, Billy and Trish, and Donald and Michelle; grandchildren, Olivia and Daniel Speares, Preston and Carrie Knight, and Morgan and Benjamin Duke; great-grandchildren, Bailey and Reese Speares; sisters-in-law, Christalee Knight, Doris Knight, Dorothy "Dot" Knight, and "sister" Ethel Knight Rucker. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 12pm at Beulah United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington chapel. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Rucker, Pete Tucker, Gene Raymond, Roger Hill, Butch Knight, Cleve Edge, Bob Jackson and Howard Pees. Honorary pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 156 and the Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Beulah Methodist Church Building Fund or to the Sandy Run Museum and Cultural Center. The family would like to thank Agape Hospice for all their help and care and special thanks to Loretta Porterfield- Haywood, Torre Porterfield, and Monique Brost for their tireless care and endless love for Dad and Mom through his sickness.
