Obituary of Katharine Davis

LEXINGTON—Funeral services for Katharine Wertz Davis, 93, of Lexington will be held at 12:00pm Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Shandon Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Jim Frierson, Mike Medlin, Lynn Hutchinson, David Beacham, Bryan Beacham and Frazier Bradford. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home, West Columbia Chapel. Mrs. Davis was married to the late Charles Edwin Davis and was the daughter of the late, Wilbur Schumpert Wertz and Pearle Willingham. She was a life member of Shandon Presbyterian Church where she was a member of Circle 3 now Circle 10 she was a 1939 graduate of the University of South Carolina where she received her Master's degree. She was a member of the ADPi sorority. Prior to her marriage she taught in the McColl and Mc Bee school systems. She taught for more than 36 years in the Columbia School System at BC #1 the McMasters Schools, AC Moore and Howard. She was also an avid bridge player and active in the Busy Bees Garden club. Surviving are son, Charles Edwin Davis, Jr. (Cindy) of Cayce; grandson, Dewayne Charles Davis and numerous amount of nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband and parents she is predeceased by her brother, Wilbur S. Wertz, Jr and sister, Elizabeth W. Beacham.
