Obituary of Olin Carnes

OLIN EMILY CARNES Bacon, GA Graveside services for SGM Olin E. Carnes, retired, 78, formerly of Hopkins, will be held at 4:00pm Sunday, September 9, 2012 in Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 3 pm at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road Columbia SC 29209. Memorials may be made to the Howlmore Animal Sanctuary, PO Box 61128 Columbia, SC 29260. Mr. Carnes was born September 12, 1933 he was the son of the late Furman Carnes and Lula Mae Roberts. He enlisted in the US Air Force as a young cadet and later transferred his military career to the US Army where he served over 30 years. He served two tours in Vietnam and received several Congressional medals of Honor. Mr. Carnes was married to the love of his life, the late Mathilde Carnes. He leaves behind grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and her husband Brent of Georgia and LCDR Thomas G. Taylor and his wife, Rebecca of Hawaii; great-grandchildren, Sarah Johnson, Jake Johnson, Morgan Taylor, Kate Johnson and Jadon Taylor and, several nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish his memory. In addition to his parents and wife he is predeceased by his brothers and sisters. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with handling the arrangements.
