Obituary of Eleanor Morris

COLUMBIA-Eleanor Hendricks Morris, 85, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 7, 2012, after a long illness. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at 10:30am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devine St. Burial will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Greenlawn Funeral Home on Monday, September 10, 2012 from 6-8pm following the recitation of the rosary. Eleanor was born on February 12, 1927 in New Bedford, Mass. She was the youngest child of 10 children born to the late Joseph and Marianna (Vieira) Hendricks. She was a devoted wife to her beloved husband, Raymond E. Morris, Sr. They met as teenagers and were married for 63 years. Mrs. Morris was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kempson Business School. She retired from J.B. White Dept. Store after 26 years of service. She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, gardening, swimming and loved caring for and being with her family. She was a communicant of St. Joseph Church since moving to Columbia, SC with her family in 1964. She was a member of the St. Joseph Walsh Guild and Senior Center and JB White Retirees. She is survived by her four daughters Janet (Delmar) Faust, Patti (James) Slaughter, Mary Beth Wilson, Susan (Tony) Warner and two sons Raymond (Glenda) Morris, Jr., Joseph (Debbie) Morris. 12 grandchildren, Brooke (Caleb) Murray, Lauren Faust, Taylor and Madison Morris, Ashley, Brie and Tricia Trotter, Raymond Wilson, Amanda, Chase, Nicholas Mitchum and Blake Warner. Six great-grandchildren Kai Harmon, Isabella and Parker Murray, Adelina and Barrett Coffer and Isaac Haltom. Two sisters, Isabel Andrade, and Evelyn Hendricks, of New Bedford, MA and numerous nieces and nephews. Eleanor was predeceased by Mary, Manuel and William Hendricks, Hazel Thomas, Frances King, Alice Fraga and Elsie Espinola. The family would like to extend special thanks to all caregivers of Hospice Care of TriCounty especially Lashonda, Vanessa and Sue. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with handling the arrangements.
