Obituary of Blane Smith

Funeral service for Blane Kent Smith, 47, will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 24, 2012, in the Chapel of Greenlawn Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Anthony Ghouralal. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park-Serenity Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission 1100 Taylor St., Columbia, SC 29201. Mr. Smith passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Blane was born on July 4, 1965, in Allegan, Michigan, the son of Donald H. Smith and Virginia Mixon Smith. He lived most of his life in the Columbia area. He graduated from C.A. Johnson High School, and was a recent graduate of the Culinary and Wine Institute at the University of South Carolina, where he received a certificate in culinary arts. Blane held a lengthy career in pest control and sales. He was employed by Sportsman?s Warehouse. Blane loved cooking, fishing, the water, music, and animals. He was a USC Gamecock fan, and enjoyed football and baseball. He attended East Lake Community Church. Blane will be remembered as a compassionate and fun-loving person who loved his family. Survivors include: his mother, Virginia Mixon Smith; his father, Donald H. Smith (Irene); brothers, Barry Keith Smith and Brian Kelvin Smith (Cathy); former wife and companion, Tami Marie Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews. Greenlawn Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
