Obituary of Vernon Nichols

Funeral service for Vernon Eugene Nichols, 77, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 8, 2012, at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Nichols passed away Tuesday, October 02, 2012. Born in Coushatta, LA, he was a son of the late Edgar Alvin Nichols and Annie Mae Price Nichols. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of Vietnam who proudly served his country for over 21 years, with four tours in Vietnam. He received many awards: the National Defense Service Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, Eight Oversea Bars, Good Conduct Medal (Sixth Award), Bronze Star Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Unit Citation, Drivers Badge and Meritorious Service Medal. Survivors include: his loving wife, Mary Jo Sivley Nichols; daughter, Rebecca Butler (Franky); sons, Joel Nichols (Diana), Rex Nichols (Sara), and Douglas Nichols (Christy); sisters, Lura Edrington of Arkansas, Joyce Brown of Arkansas, Louise Walbeck of Texas, Billie Hayman of Arkansas and Unice Hayman of Arkansas; grandchildren, Stephen, Richard, Anna and David Nichols; step-grandson, Timothy Bates; a special cousin, Rodney Nichols; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
