Obituary of Master Marvin Patterson Craig

LEXINGTON—Master Sergeant Marvin Patterson "Pat" Craig, retired, left this world to be with God; on Tuesday, October 23, 2012. He was born on July 24, 1934 in Durham NC. He was the youngest of ten children, born to John Thompson Craig and Mamie Irene Christian Craig. He joined the Air Force at age 18 and served 30 years and became a flight engineer. He served his God, his family and his country proudly and with great courage. He leaves behind his wife of 58 years Agnes Rimando Craig and five children; daughter, Miriam Craig Jones and husband Bob Jones of Myrtle Beach, son, Marvin "Pat" Craig, Jr. and wife Diane Grimes Craig of Hoschton, GA, daughter, Kim Craig Fondaw and husband James Fondaw of Columbia, SC, son, Benjamin Craig and special friend, Kelly Robinson of Lexington, SC, daughter, June Christian Craig of Columbia, SC. He had seven grandchildren, J. Brad Jones and wife Lauren of Ocean Springs, MS, grandson, Sean Craig Jones and wife, Patricia of Charleston, SC , grandsons, Marvin Craig "Trey" III and Michael P. Craig of Hoschton, GA, granddaughter, Brittany Paige Ramp and her fiancé, Matthew Haroff of Columbia; grandson, Ryan Ramp of Los Angeles, CA, grandson, Zachary Ramp; five great-grandchildren, Sophia and McKenna Jones, Catherine Jones and step-great grandchildren, Alyssa and Jeremiah Roberts of Charleston, SC. He leaves behind his brothers, Roger Craig and wife Carolyn Craig of San Diego, CA and Charles "Spud" Craig of New Orleans; sisters-in-law, Doris Craig and Betty Jo Craig of NC along with a numerous nieces and nephews. He leaves his wife's family, sisters, Mary Ann Novaczyk, sister, Margie Graham and husband George, sister, Catherine Brazwell and husband Terry, brother, Bob Torres along with numerous nieces and nephews of Chicago and Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Irene Craig, his brothers, J.T. Craig, Jr., Wilson Craig, Richard Craig and sisters, Miriam King, Sybil Swett, Irene Richmond and Catherine Hendrix. Marvin was an active member of Summerville Baptist Church, then moved to Lexington, SC and became a member of Lake Murray Baptist Church. His many friends and family will miss the sunshine of his mischievous smile. Our ray of sunshine is gone but never forgotten. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at the Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Herb Gladden from Lake Murray Baptist Church and Pastor Michael Atkinson from Summerville Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be held at 4 p.m. in Summerville Cemetery with full military honors, Hwy 17, alt. name Boone Hill Road, Summerville, SC.
