Obituary of Wayne Collins

CAYCE: Wayne Everett Collins, 67, passed away October 25, 2012, at Palmetto Richland Hospital. Born December 20, 1944, in Barnwell County, SC, he was the son of Luther Everett Collins and the late Emily Creech Collins. Mr. Collins was retired from State government after 38 years of service, and from the U.S. Army Reserve after 28 years. He was a graduate of Newberry College. Mr. Collins was a member of the ABC Sunday School Class at State Street Baptist Church of Cayce, a former member who held every office of the Cayce-West Columbia Jaycees, and a member of the JCI Senate. He was also a passionate youth soccer coach and official. A loving husband, father, son, grandfather and brother, Wayne is survived by his wife, Kathy Avedisian Collins; sons, Dr. Chris Collins (Kristi) of Saluda, and Jeffrey Collins (Britt) of Lexington; six grandchildren, Grant, Grace and Carter Collins, Jake and Lindsay Holley and Corley Collins; his father, Luther Everett Collins; brothers, Jack (Sue) and Dean (Sandra); and sister, Connie Kinard. Mr. Collins and family would like to thank his caregivers, Dr. Joseph Gabriel of S.C. Internal Medicine, Dr. David Adams of MUSC, Dr. Ralph Delphia of Columbia Heart Clinic, the doctors at S.C. Oncology and all of their staffs, as well as the nurses and staff of Palmetto Richland Heart Hospital and Palmetto Health Hospice. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to State Street Baptist Church, Jimmy Quinn Scholarship Fund, 1420 State Street, Cayce, SC 29033. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne's life will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, October 28, 2012, at State Street Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 4 p.m. prior to service at the church. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is assisting the family.
