Obituary of Ruth Oimoen Phillips

Ruth Elaine Oimoen Phillips, 86, passed away Friday, October 26, 2012. Born in Brigham Township, Wisconsin on March 23, 1926 she was the daughter of Edwin Theodore Oimoen and Gina Caroline Nygaard Oimoen. She attended the University of Wisconsin as a Journalism major. She moved to Washington, DC where she worked at the Pentagon. She met her husband Codie Odell Phillips there and they moved to Columbia where they raised their ten children. Ruth was an amazing mother who was a wonderful inspiration to all of her children. Her loving words and thoughtful guidance will fill her children?s hearts forever. After raising her children, she also worked at the SC Employment Security Commission and the Finance Office at Fort Jackson. Survivors include Deborah Oliver (Kenneth), Diane Gasque (Harrison), Leslie Wallace (Joel), Barbara Pietras (Thomas), Thomas Phillips, Charles Phillips and Bryan Phillips all of Columbia, SC and Craig Phillips (Sherri) of Springfield, Oregon; grandchildren, Chip Oliver (Melissa), Brent Oliver (DeAnne), Scott Phillips (Lauren), Benjamin Phillips, Folline Gasque, Travis Bradley, Joey Wallace (T.J.), Melissa Wallace, Cameron Wallace, Alex Pietras (Shannon), Gregory Pietras, Michael Pietras (Debbie), Cody Phillips, Stephen Phillips, Brandon Phillips and Amber Phillips; great-grandchildren, Daphne Oliver, Trey Oliver, Jimmie Oliver, Mary Handly Templeton Phillips and Liam Wallace. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Codie Odell Phillips and her two sons, David Scott Phillips, Sr. and Richard Mark Phillips. Graveside services celebrating the life of Ruth Elaine Oimeon Phillips will held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2012 in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at 11am at Greenlawn Funeral Home. The family would like to thank everyone for their love, support and prayers during her illness.
