Obituary of Jessie Smith Reed

A graveside service celebrating the life of Jessie Ruth Smith Reed, 85, of Columbia, SC, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Palmetto Richland Children's Hospital, #5 Medical Park Drive, Columbia, SC 29203 in Jessie's memory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mrs. Reed passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012. She was born in Laurel, Mississippi to John Wesley Smith and Mary Richards Smith. Mrs. Reed was predeceased by her husband, William Walter "Bud" Reed; her parents, five brothers, and one sister. Those left to cherish her precious memories are her two daughters, Beverly Ruth Reed and Mary Ellen Cauley; six sons, William Michael Reed, Charles Terrell Reed, Walter Steven Reed, Roger Scott Reed, Jeffery Mark Reed, Wayne Kent Reed and their spouses; her brother, Haskell Smith of Laurel, Mississippi; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Special appreciation is extended to the doctors and staff at NHC Parklane, especially to Joanne Robertson and the 2nd shift staff for their care and support of our loved one.
