Obituary of Ollie Hughes

WEST COLUMBIA-Funeral services to remember the life of Ollie Mae Hughes, 91, of West Columbia will be held at 10:00AM on Tuesday November 6, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Rd., Lexington, SC 29073. After the service, Mrs. Hughes will be interred at the Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The service will be led by Pastor Jimmy Goudelock and Rector Scotty Brock. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 5, 2012 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at the funeral home. Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Hughes died Thursday November 1, 2012 after a brief illness. Born in Zerkle, GA, she was the daughter of Seth and Mollie Weathers. She grew up in Brunswick, GA and raised her children on St. Simons Island. Widowed at an early age, Ollie went to work and supported her family, and raised two daughters. She had a satisfying career which included being Department Head of the American Legion Auxiliary in Florida. Mrs. Hughes is survived by her husband of over 43 years, R. W. "Bob" Hughes; daughter, Marvel Carr of Vidalia, GA and five grandchildren: Kim Taylor, Nicole Ray, Susan Brown, Myron James Norman III, and Chris Carr; and her son-in-law, Nate Rhodes. She also had 5 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Winona Rhodes. The family would like to extend a special thank you to her nurses at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
