Obituary of David Pewu

Funeral service for David Mulbah Pewu, 60, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Friday, November 9, 2012, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, officiated by Bishop David Youngs. Interment will follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Pewu passed away Thursday, October 25, 2012. Born April 15, 1952, in Lofa County, Liberia, he was a son of the late Yarkpazuo Gborvia Pewu and Yonger Gbawai Pewu. Mr. Pewu moved to the United States in 1969 to attend Glassboro University in New Jersey, where he received four bachelor's degrees, one of which was in Business Administration, and another in Criminal Justice. In 1980 he joined the U.S. Army. During his military service he was stationed at Fort Bragg, NC, in Germany for 18 years, and was then assigned to Korea. He retired from the Army after twenty-five years and eleven months of service as a master sergeant. Mr. Pewu had currently been attending Limestone College, studying for his master's degree in Criminal Justice, and was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors include: his wife of four years, Cecelia Johnson Pewu; daughter, Denise Jones; sons, Zizi Pewu and Demann Diamond Pewu; twelve brothers and twelve sisters; three grandchildren, Jericho Murphy, Krubo Pewu and Faith Pewu; special friends, Joseph Howard and Joseph Zubah
