Obituary of Tommie Grigsby

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Tommie G. Grigsby, 77, of West Columbia, will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Oakwood Baptist Church. Officiating will be Pastor Richard Wilson. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers will be the Oakwood Baptist Church Men's Sunday School Classes. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made in Tommie's honor to Oakwood Baptist Church Building Fund, 3520 Mineral Springs Road, Lexington, SC 29073 or a charity of one's choice. Mr. Grigsby, beloved husband of Bernice Ellisor Grigsby, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 10, 2012. Born in Cayce, he was the son of the late Glenn V. Grigsby and Henrietta Atkerson Grigsby. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of Oakwood Baptist Church. He retired from Wrenn Machine Tools, Inc. He was an avid fisherman and gifted tomato gardener. Surviving in addition to his wife Bernice E. Grigsby of West Columbia; sons, Ernest G. Grigsby (Carol) of Lawrenceburg, Indiana and Ray Grigsby (Janet) of Lexington; daughter, Joye Hipp (Jimmy) of Columbia; grandchildren, Victoria Hoegeman, Jennifer Grigsby, Todd Grigsby, Lauren Grigsby and Andrew Grigsby; six great-grandchildren; sister, Carrie Goodwin of Cayce; brothers, Frank Grigsby (Lorine) of South Congaree and Johnny Grigsby (Jeannette) of Elgin. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elbert, Marion and Jimmy Grigsby and a sister, Virginia Grigsby. Special thanks to Tri-County Hospice, Lexington Medical Center and South Carolina Oncology for their special care.
