Obituary of Betty Schneider

Mrs. Betty McGown Schneider, 85, of Columbia, passed away, Wednesday, November 14, 2012. A native of Memphis, TN, she was the beloved wife of Edwin S. Schneider for 64 years and the daughter of the late Henry Curtis McGown, Jr., and Margaret Cole McGown, of Memphis, TN. Surviving is her husband, Edwin; daughter, Cecily McCoy; son, David Schneider (Carolyn) of Richmond, VA; grandsons, Eddie McCoy of Charleston and Daniel Schneider of Los Angeles; brother, Dr. Curtis McGown of Blythewood. Mrs. Schneider was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret McGown and brother, Rev. Taylor McGown. Mrs. Schneider had a modeling career at Bergdorf Goodman in New York as a young lady and worked for the Coast Guard in Washington, DC during World War II. She worked as a legal secretary for over 30 years for Columbia law firms. Her favorite pastime was playing contract bridge and she held Life Master status. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, November 16, 2012, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Greenlawn Funeral Home is assisting the family.
