Obituary of Ira Nickle

LEXINGTON: Memorial service for Ira Calvin Nickle, Jr., 86, will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by District Elder Steven Cottrell. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Mr. Nickle passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012. Born in Butterfield, MO, he was a son of the late Ira Calvin Nickle, Sr., and Grace Brown Nickle. He was a member of the New Apostolic Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired after 24 years of service with the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Nickle was a graduate of Park University, and was a member of Masonic Lodge 371 in Columbia. Mr. Nickle spoke fluent German, was an avid reader and genealogist who was authoring a book on the history of the Nickle family. Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Ursula Petzold of Lexington; sons, Wolfgang Nickle (Elke), Daniel F. T. Nickle and Oliver T.S. Nickle (Melanie) all of Lexington; daughter, Cindy Ann Nickle Runyan of Gastonia, NC; brother, Patrick Nickle (Norma) of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Hillary M. Nickle, Angela W. Runyan, Alexander G. Runyan, Logan N. Runyan, Claire E. Nickle and Spencer M. Nickle. Mr. Nickle was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Nickle. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
