Obituary of George Williams

A graveside service celebrating the life of George Allen Williams, 89, of Columbia, SC will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery with full military honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer?s Association, South Carolina Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd-Suite L, Anderson, SC 29621 in George?s memory. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. Mr. Williams departed this earthly life on Thursday, November 22, 2012. He was born in Greeneville, TN to John Jake Williams and Julia Dunn Williams. SFC Williams had a long and distinguished military career serving during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. After retirement, George spent many years as a DOD civilian employee and with the Eckerd?s Drug Store chain. George received many awards, commendations, and decorations for his exemplary government service but he will be best remembered for his extraordinary character, ability to befriend all he met, & his life-long love and support of his wife and family. He was truly a man of grace, kindness, & humility and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. George was a longtime member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. He was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Frances Bowers Williams; two sons, Richard Allen Williams and Jerry Lynn Williams (Paulette); a brother, Frank Samuel Williams; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
