Obituary of Lonnie McGuire

Lonnie Edward McGuire, 90, of Columbia, passed away Monday, November 26, 2012, at WJB Dorn Medical Center, Columbia. Born December 2, 1921, in Monroe Co., Kentucky, he was a son of the late Joel Oscar and Verna (Emberton) McGuire. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Mr. McGuire actively served during WWII in the Pacific Theatre where he received a Purple Heart. Following his service in the military, Lonnie then worked for the Department of Defense and after 30 years of service he retired. In addition to his parents, Mr. McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (Kuemmerle) McGuire, with whom he shared a devoted and blessed union of more than 50 years. He is survived by one son, Timothy E. McGuire, of Columbia; a brother, Wallace McGuire; and a granddaughter, Kayla Marie McGuire and her fiancé Mark Carter, Jr. An entombment service will held on Friday, November 30, 2012, at 1:00 P.M., in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to Greenlawn Funeral Home, Columbia.
