Obituary of Helen Crenshaw

Columbia ~ In the late evening hours of Sunday, December 02, 2012, Helen Julia Hill Crenshaw answered the ?Sweet Call? of her Savior to enter into His Arms of Eternal Rest. Born on Thursday, April 2, 1931 in Summerton, South Carolina, Helen was the daughter of the late John Dove Hill, Sr. and Julia Haley Hill. Helen?s family relocated to Marlboro County after her birth and she was raised in Bennettsville, South Carolina. A graduate of Lower Marlboro High School, Helen went on to complete her undergraduate studies at Drones Business College receiving a Certification Business Education. After 36 years of faithful employment in Banking, Helen retired from Bank of America?s Trust & Pension Division in 1999. Helen?s life was touched by Love in two very signicant ways. First when she accepted Christ as her Lord and personal Savior. Helen was a faithful believer of the Presbyterian Faith and shared Christ Love with all who had the honor to know and love her. The second experience of love occurred on Saturday, October 14, 1950, when Helen was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, John Hamilton ?Hamp? Crenshaw. To this union of 31 years of love and devotion was born one daughter Barbara Ann Crenshaw. Helen lost the love of her life in 1982. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 31 years, John Hamilton ?Hamp? Crenshaw, her brother Mr. John Dove Hill, Jr., and her sister, Josephine Hill Usher. Those blessed to honor Helen?s memory are her daughter, Barbara Ann Crenshaw of Columbia, her two sisters, Mrs. Betty {William} Goree, Summerville, South Carolina; Mrs. Sara {Philip} Thomas, Blenheim, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Noah Usher, Bennettsville, South Carolina; one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Williams Hill, Augusta, Georgia; two adopted children who loved her dearly, Ann C. Gandy and E.T. Taylor of Columbia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and very close neighbors and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 7239 Patterson Road, Columbia, South Carolina, 803-776-3050 with Rev. Mark J. Buchan officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Celebration of Life. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
