Obituary of Aline Coggins

CAYCE: Funeral services for Aline Rucker Coggins, 102, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2012, at Cayce United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Joseph James, Jr. Interment will follow in Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be her nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Lydia Seekers Sunday School Class, Susanna Wesley Circle and the Women's Club of Cayce. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Memorials may be made to Cayce United Methodist Church 1600 12th St., Cayce, SC 29033 or to the Cayce Women's Club, P.O. Box 4273, Cayce, SC 29171. Mrs. Coggins, widow of Dewey Lee Coggins, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, December 6, 2012. Born in Calhoun County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Harry McBride Rucker and Mamie Elizabeth Asman Rucker. She retired from R.H. Smith Library after 28 years of service. She was a member of Cayce United Methodist Church since 1931 and was a life member of United Methodist Women, Lydia Seekers Sunday School Class, Susanna Wesley Circle and the Women's Club of Cayce. Mrs. Coggins was voted Woman of the Year in 2000 by the United Methodist Women. She earned the distinction of being the longest serving member of the Cayce General Federation of Women's Club. In March of 2010, she was presented The Order of the Palmetto by Governor Mark Sanford. This is the highest award given to civilians in South Carolina. Mrs. Coggins was honored by the S.C. State House and Senate both with a Resolution on her 100th birthday. Survivors include her son, Harold R. Coggins (Carole Ann) of West Columbia; a daughter-in-law, Ann Coggins of Hopkins; four grandchildren, DeAnn Willard, Richard Coggins, Michael Coggins, Mark and Meg Coggins; seven great grandchildren, Carol Willard, Dewey Willard, Zackery Coggins, Lakin Aline Coggins, Lauren Coggins, Hensley Coggins and Mary Addison Coggins. Mrs. Coggins was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey L. Coggins and son, Dewey M. Coggins; also 4 brothers and 5 sisters. The family would like to express appreciation and thanks to the staff, nurses, and CNA'S of National Health Care of West Columbia, Hospice Care of Tri-County, and to the family and friends for their loving care and devotion.
