Obituary of Florence Baughman

Columbia--Florence Christine (Chris) Baughman lost her courageous battle with cancer, and went home peacefully on Sunday, December 9, 2012. Chris was the daughter of Tom Baughman, Betty Jean Dorn and Rhett Dorn; in addition to her loving parents Chris is survived by her sister Jill Riddle (Ralph), niece Savannah, a host of family and friends and special friends Michael Henline and Libby Shields. Chris was a graduate of Airport High School and attended USC and Midlands Tech. Chris faithfully served the Department of Juvenile Justice for 25 years until her retirement last December. Chris was a precious, kind and gentle person best known for her selfless, giving nature, and love of cooking. Chris loved cats; she adopted many over the years as well as fed any stray cat in her neighborhood, no kitty ever had a better friend. She was an avid reader, loved old black and white movies, the ocean and going for long walks with friends. Chris was her happiest when she was doing things for other people, and many were recipients of baskets of homemade goodies or small thoughtful gifts that came from the heart; she truly touched the lives of all who knew her in a special way and all of us are better for having known her. Chris' family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Lexington Oncology and Southern Surgical Associates for their care and support during her illness. Funeral services for Chris will be held at 3p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
