Obituary of Willie Spires

SWANSEA: Graveside service for Willie Mae Spires, 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 13, 2012, in the King Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Swansea, SC, officiating will be the Reverend Johnny Slice. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm Wednesday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made to Edmund First Baptist Church, 6256 Edmund Highway, Lexington, SC 29073. Mrs. Spires, widow of James C. "J.C." Spires died Monday, December 10, 2012. Born in Kershaw County, she was a daughter of the late William Bryant Grigsby and Sadie Branham Grigsby. She was a longtime member of King Grove Baptist Church and also attended Edmund First Baptist Church. Formerly was an employee of Pelion Mfg. and the Baptist Medical Center. Following retirement she volunteered at Baptist Medical Center as well as delivering for Meals on Wheels. Mrs. Spires was a tender loving soul not just for her children and grandchildren, but for all those who knew her. Surviving is her daughter, Kathy Chubbuck (Larry) of Gilbert; son, Gerald Spires of Swansea; brother, Walter Eugene Grigsby of Gilbert; grandchildren, Eric Spires, Bryant Stone (Mandy), Michael Stone, Alycia Knight (Mike); great grandchildren, Robbie Stone, Walker Spires, Jaycee Stone, Wyatt Stone, Mariah Stone, Quaid Stone, Blake Knight and Landon Knight. Mrs. Spires was preceded in death by her late husband of over 52 years, James C. "J.C." Spires, son, Dale Eugene Spires and grandson, Jeremie Spires. The family of Mrs. Spires would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving care and compassion given by Mrs. Lelia Sutton her caregiver and to her granddaughter-in-law, Mandy Stone, who spent countless nights taking care of her for the midnight hours. Also the Spires family is deeply grateful for the care given by Dr. John Lazaro and his nurse, Kathy Hoover over Mrs. Spires's time of treatment.
