Dear Sean, Marta and Carolyn,
Altho it has been ages and you may not remember me,I wanted to tell you how sad I was to hear of Ed's illness and wanted you to know that I am thinking about you with much love and compassion now that you have to come to a peace with his transition. I,like so many lucky young people, first had the privilege of knowing and being known by "Dear Mr. Grady" at Freedom HS. Such a wonderful man, teacher and Artist as Ed will forever be in the hearts of all of us he touched. His caring and expert influence (on so many people but on his students, especially) continues to spread thru the world like the rings made by throwing a pebble on still water. A life well lived, I think. I know you will always miss him being here with you in the physical - and so will I. And I hope your memories will be a comfort to you thru any difficult times. I am grateful to have known you all. Love always,Susan

Ed and his brother Bobby were friends of mine in high school. Ed was a very fine football player under our famous coach Frank Mock. On a few occasions, we were together among mutual friends during the holidays. Ed often came to Kinston to meet with the IOMC (Important Older Men's Club). We're all in our mid-80s; it was a bonus to see Ed on those visits. My sympathy to all of Ed's family, and to Bobby and his wife, Carolyn, in Warner-Robbins.

I worked with Ed in 1994 in Lexington, KY while shooting the ABC TV Movie A Horse For Danny. He was a very kind man, and gave me a lot of good advice as an actor. I will never forget him, and the magic he created on screen. He will never be forgotten!

Sean and family,
I was lucky to have worked with your father on "The Fantasticks" as music director in my 1st yr at Freedom HS. You even came down to rig strob light etc. for the fight scene. Several kids went into musical theater and TV from that cast and all had a memorable time. He was a fabulous director and artistic force (unappreciated at FHS by administration) and he and your mother were great friends and supporters of mine. Wish I could have done a hundred shows with him.
My sincerest sympathy,
Jim Gossler

I had Ed for a teacher at Freedom High School in the late 1970's, for the classes Play Production and Through the Camera's Eye. Of all the teachers that i encountered through school, Ed was my favorite. He ALWAYS had time to answer questions of my young curious mind.
As he began to get work in commercials and TV work, he often asked if I would like to accompany him, though due to work and college classes, I could never go. We talked fairly often and he would always ask about his fellow teachers from his days at Freedom.
He sent me a copy of The Old Man and later he was proud to have worked several Hallmark movies and would always alert me of an upcoming appearance on TV.
I talked to him last about 2003, as my musical group passed through Colombia, SC. As always, he asked about my family and their accomplishments.
My life was much richer for living during the time of Ed Grady.
Prayers continually for his family and friends in the days to come.

I met Ed Grady as one of his student's in Theater and film at Freedom Highschool in the 1970's. His wealth of knowledge and enjoyment of creative expression changed my life. He was an amazing Director, Teacher, Actor and wonderfully wise, insightful and kind Person. He was a bright light in so many lives. His love of Theater and the Arts and the willingness to share his Great Talent and Spirit was and will forever be precious to me.
I watched a beautiful meteor shower last night and found out the news of his passing today. I feel he was a gift in our time, a marvelous shooting star that blessed this Earth by sharing his life.
I send thoughts of comfort and peace to all who knew and loved him.

I met Mr. Grady while I was a student at Freedom High School. There was never a dull moment for me, as I was very interested in everything he taught. I was always tickled to see him onscreen, especially if I didn't expect to see him. "Hey, I know that guy!!" I'll always remember helping with the set of the Freedom High Production of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" which starred his son Shaun.
