Obituary of Mary Amason

Mary Long Amason, 85, of Hopkins, passed away December 15, 2012. She was a daughter of the late Franklin B. and Emmie (Rawlinson) Long. She was a charter member of Temple Baptist church and a member of the Lydia Sunday School Class. She served as a leader for the Boy and Girl Scouts, as well as several positions at her church. She retired from WLTX-TV, where she made many friends across the country handling national advertising. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Copeland C. Amason; and a brother, Franklin. She is survived by a daughter, Linda; a son, Mike (Barbara); grandchildren, Jessamine Grice (Will), Samantha and Donovan Amason, great-grandchildren, Francis and Ezra Grice; sister, Betty; sister-in-law Martha; and extended family. She is deeply loved and greatly missed. She always took care of her family and was an excellent homemaker; able to cook, sew and fix almost anything. She always had time to listen patiently and offer encouragement, and never turned away anyone who needed something. She amazed her doctors and therapists with her determination and courage. Services will be at 11:00 A.M., on Friday, Dec. 21, at Mill Creek Methodist Church, on Sumter Highway, with Rev. Laverne Hancock officiating. Interment will follow in Mill Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 P.M., Dec. 20, at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Memorial Contribbutions may be made to The Salvation Army, Woodyard Fund, P.O. Box 1333, Columbia, SC 29202.
