Obituary of D.C. Roof

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for D.C. "Jeff" Roof, 97, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2012, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, officiated by Reverend Elford Roof. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday, at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mr. Roof passed away Monday, December 24, 2012. Born in Springdale, SC, he was a son of the late Daniel Charlton Roof and Mattie Pearl Hook Roof. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be greatly missed. Jeff was one of the original founders of the Town of Springdale and former Mayor Pro-Tem. He was a poll manager for many years for the town of Springdale. He was, along with his brother Harry, the owner of Long Branch Dairy, in which his entire family participated. Mr. Roof was a lifelong member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and he participated in various church committees and served on the church council. Surviving is his loving wife of 73 years, Bula L. Roof of Lexington; daughters, Sandra Roof Woolley (Steve) of Winter Garden, FL, Bonnie R. Long (Rev. Larry) of Lexington and Laurie Roof Payne (Bill) of Chicago, IL; sons, Douglas C. Roof (Anne) of Conway, J. Stacey Roof (Martha) of Lexington and Carey W. Roof (Mickey) of Lexington; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Kenneth W. Smith (Julie) of West Columbia. Mr. Roof was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice Roof Smith; brothers, Colie W. Roof, Herbert E. Roof and Harry E. Roof. The family would like to thank Mr. Roof's caregivers at Agape Lexington for their compassionate care.
