Obituary of George Ashford Lindsay

COLUMBIA—Funeral service for George "Buddy" Ashford Lindsay, 76, of Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Columbia (Boyce Chapel). Officiating will be Rev. Dennis B. Banks. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eli Huffman, Ted Jeffcoat, Kelly Walling, Cameron Davis, Ted Burgess and George Daniels. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Memorials may be made in Buddy's honor to VA Victory House Nursing Home, 2541 Sydney Road, Walterboro, SC 29488. Mr. Lindsay passed away on December 30, 2012. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late George William Lindsay and Margaret Ashford Lindsay. He was a lifetime area resident and a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia. He retired from SCE&G after many years of loyal service. He was active in AA in the Columbia area and a volunteer at Our Saint Vincent DePaul Homeless Shelter at St. Peter Catholic Church. Buddy volunteered at Washington Street United Methodist Church Soup Kitchen every Wednesday. He was a Veteran of the United State Navy; working as a Radio Technician on the USS Ticonderoga during the Korean War. He was an avid Scrap Metal Collector. Surviving are his daughter, Georgeann Lindsay Van Putten of Lexington; son, Jason Lindsay of Columbia; granddaughter, Ashton Lindsay Van Putten; sister, Helen Gray Richardson of Pittsburg, PA and a brother, William Lindsay (Helen) of St. Matthews. Also survived by his faithful companion "Slick" the cat.
