Obituary of Charles Ballington

A graveside service celebrating the life of Charles W. Ballington, Jr., 74, of Columbia will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boiling Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2373 Caulks Ferry Road, Lexington, SC 29073 or the Washington Street United Methodist Church, 1401 Washington Street, Columbia, SC 29201 in Charles memory. Col. Charles W. Ballington, Jr. (Ret.) passed away on Monday, December 31, 2012, in Providence Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1938, in Gilbert, SC, to Winfred and Rachel Lewis Ballington. Charles was married to Ruth Roddy Ballington. He was a full-time employee of the South Carolina Army National Guard until his retirement in 1993. Col. Ballington was predeceased by his wife, his parents, and a brother, George. Surviving are his brothers, Lewis (Joyce), Donald (Lynda), Clarence (Jene'), Douglas (Bonnie), and Gerald (Lou Ann) Ballington; his sisters, Sybil Beddingfield, Virginia (Milo) Miller, Alice McElveen, Deborah Theis, and Cathryn Ballington; a friend and caregiver, Jose Dominguez; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
