Obituary of Gilliam Smith

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral service for Gilliam Fred Smith, 75, of West Columbia, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Geddings. Burial will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Mr. Smith passed away on January 1, 2013. Born in Darlington County, he was the son of the late Fred Smith and Ruby Rogers Smith. He has been an area resident since 1975 formerly traveled the world with the military. He retired 23 years of service the United States Air Force and from the Lexington County Sheriff's Department after 20 years of service where he served at a Deputy Sheriff. Surviving are his daughters, Susan Smith (Nick) of West Columbia, Lindy Jordan of Columbia; son, Danny Smith of West Columbia; sister, Barbara Riddle of Cayce; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; longtime companion, Sonja Snowdon, her children, Rica SheehanWard (Curt) of Lexington and Chad Snowdon of West Columbia. He was preceded in death by a sister, Grace Munn, brother, Roger L. Smith and grandchild, Matthew Lynn Smith.
