Obituary of Hammond Gleaton

WEST COLUMBIA—Funeral services for Hammond Legree "H.L." Gleaton, Jr., 64, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 7, 2013, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington, officiated by Pastor Mark Bredholt. Interment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 - 11 a.m., one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the SPCA, 121 Humane Lane, Columbia, SC 29209. Mr. Gleaton passed away Thursday, January 3, 2013. Born in Norway, SC, he was a son of the late Hammond Legree Gleaton, Sr. and Loleta Hughes Gleaton. He was retired from Wilbur Smith & Associates. Mr. Gleaton played guitar loved wood carving and had a passion for blues music and his dogs. He enjoyed genealogy. Mr. Gleaton was a man of great integrity and he never met a stranger. Surviving is his loving wife of 37 years, Sally Gleaton of West Columbia; sons, "Trip" Gleaton (Tara) of Charleston and Lee Gleaton of West Columbia; sister, Pam Gleaton of Cayce; brothers, Michael Gleaton (Debbie) of Elgin, Danny Gleaton (Betsy) of Pelion, Tony Gleaton (Ann) of Lexington and Ronnie Gleaton of Batesburg; longtime special friends, Ken and Terry Knight; brothers-in-law, Copeland Zeigler and Bobby Zeigler (Patty); also numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, in-laws, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Gleaton was preceded in death by sisters, Shirley Ansel and Evelyn Wimberly.
