Obituary of Laura Brown

Mrs. Laura Brown, 82, of Columbia passed away January 18, 2013 after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Spencer Lee Brown Sr. Services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC with burial following in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home one hour prior to the services. Born in Camden, Mrs. Brown was a long time resident of Columbia and Elgin. The daughter of the late William Branham and Hattie Croft Branham, she was predeceased by her ten brothers and sisters. Mrs. Brown was a career employee of South Carolina's Department of Mental Health and State Penitentiary where she was a nurse. Outside of work, she loved her family, her church and singing solos, duets and choir specials. After retirement, she enjoyed her arts and crafts and travelling with Spencer where they would spend untold hours raising their voices to the Lord in song. Mrs. Brown is survived by a son Spencer (Joan) Brown Jr. of Columbia and daughter Sandra (Tim) Kernen of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren Spencer (Ashley) Brown III of Simpsonville, Dana (Wally) Doyle of Myrtle Beach, Leigh Wilkinson of Chattanooga, TN, and TJ Kernen and Jared Kernen of Gainesville, GA; great grandchildren Natalie, Zane, Ian, Miranda, Ella and Willow Wilkinson of Chattanooga, TN, Spencer IV, Sydney and Griffin Brown of Simpsonville, and Caroline and Anna Doyle of Myrtle Beach; sisters-in-law Venetta Chassereau of Columbia and Elizabeth (J.W.) Barrett of Camden; and many nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Drive, Suite 301, Cayce, SC 29033.
