Obituary of Mildred Spigner

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Mildred Sightler Spigner, 98, will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Grace Chapel, Dixiana, officiated by Reverend Rusty Rabon. Mrs. Spigner will be placed in church at 2 p.m. Interment will follow in Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Kaminer, David Kaminer, Paul Busby, Clyde Spires, Bobby Gibbs and Tommy Peagler. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 pm. Tuesday at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Mrs. Spigner, widow of Wilbur Fred Spigner, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 20, 2013. Born in Gaston, SC, on April 6, 1914, she was a daughter of the late John F. Sightler and Ella Wise Sightler. She had four brothers, Hugh, Ellerby, Harry Lee and Will and all are deceased. She also had two sisters, Ola Mae Spires and Annie Vera Dowd also deceased. Mildred was married to W.F. Spigner on July 4, 1931, until he passed away on September 9, 1969. From this union, she had one daughter, Doris S. Kaminer (James) of West Columbia; two sons, W.F. "Sonny" Spigner (Mary) of Summerton an Richard E. Spigner (Barbara) of West Columbia; five grandchildren, Cheryl Langston of Timmonsville, Susan Spigner of Lexington, Donald Kaminer of West Columbia, David Kaminer of Lexington and Larry Kaminer (Christine) of Lexington; and one grandson, Mike Spigner who is predeceased. One great grandson, Josh Kaminer of Lexington, two great granddaughters, Tara Watford of Florence and Jessie Menes of New Orleans, LA. Mildred was a homemaker and had enjoyed a healthy life until recently. She enjoyed her church family and friends at Grace Chapel of Dixiana and was very active there all of her life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Grace Chapel Church, 663 Dixiana Rd., West Columbia, SC 29172. The family would like to give special thanks to our dear friend, Karen Hamilton, who gave her time and loving care to our Mother.
