Obituary of Roger Snipes

COLUMBIA: Reverend Marion Roger Snipes, 86, minister of Jesus Christ for 60 years, departed this Life on January 20, 2013, and is now in the presence of the Lord God. He was the son of the late Marvin and Vera Snipes, of High Point, NC. A veteran of the US Army, he served during WWII in the 76th Infantry Division, European Theatre of Operations and 1197th engineers. He was a graduate of the New Orleans Seminary, as well as did additional graduate studies at the Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, KY. He was an organizer of the Greer?s Baptist Association and served as President and clerk. From there he came to Columbia, SC and served for 16 years on the General Board of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. He pastored numerous churches in South Carolina and Mississippi. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Boswell) Snipes with whom he shared a devoted and blessed union of more than 58 years. He is survived by three children, Vonda Caughman, Cynthia Cannaday (Mark) and Stephen Snipes (Sandra); eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. His ministry was dedicated to the Glory of God and the Good of his people. The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice and BrightStar Home Health Care, and all our devoted friends for ministering to our father during his illness. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 11:00 A.M., in Kilbourne Park Baptist Church, 4205 Kilbourne Road, Columbia, SC 29206, with Reverend Terry Smoak and Reverend Rich Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:00 P.M., on Tuesday, January 22, 2013, in Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC 29209.
