1SG Carl Bryant Threatt, Jr. Columbia 1SG Carl Bryant Threatt, Jr., US Army Retired, 86, of Columbia, passed away January 25, 2013 at home after an extended illness with his family by his side. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., on Monday, January 28, 2013, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. A Graveside service with full military rites will be held, at 12:00 P.M., on Tuesday, January 29, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Born March 25, 1926 in Chester, SC, 1SG Threatt was the oldest child of the late Mrs. Sadie Hudson and Carl Bryant Threatt Sr. He was raised at Erwin Farm, Lancaster, where he attended Erwin Farm Elementary School and White Springs Baptist Church. 1SG Threatt enlisted in the US Army at a young age. He was a recipient of 3Bronze Star Medals for in ground operations against hostile forces in Korea, as well as the Republic of Vietnam. 1SG Threatt enjoyed his military career and was awarded many honors of distinction. He retired as a 24 year veteran at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Velma, 1SG Threatt's first wife of 48 years, loyally stayed home in Columbia caring for their two sons while he was away in combat. 1SG Threatt cared for and loved his family beyond words. He was a mentor to his younger brother, Billy, who often said, "I have the most wonderful brother in the world. We've never had a disagreement." 1SG Threatt enjoyed vacationing with his family, fishing on Henry's pond with his brother, and driving around enjoying scenery of the back roads with no destination in mind. There were many happy memories made at his house at Lake Wateree. 1SG Threatt is survived by his wife, Vera (Jackson) Threatt; sons, Kenneth Bryant (Annick) Threatt and Rickie Van Threatt, a stepdaughter, Patsy Culick, all of Columbia; stepson, M.L. (Nettie) Allison of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren, Christine (Stephen) Threatt Willis, Tracy Threatt, Rickie Threatt Jr., and Tammy Threatt; step grandchildren James (Nikki) Culick, Willie (Courtney) Culick, Meagan, Taylor and Kristlynn Allison; great granddaughters, Anna Willis and Carlie Culick, and one step great grandson, Carson Culick; brother-in-law John Adams of Lancaster and sister-in-law Harriett Threatt of Hopkins; nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and cousins, too. In addition to his parents, 1SG Threatt was predeceased by his first wife, Velma Gardner Threatt, sister, Maude Threatt Adams, and brother, Billy Joe Threatt.
