Obituary of Ann Dawkins

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral services for Ann Palmer Dawkins, 69, of West Columbia, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Holland Avenue Baptist Church. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Wilson. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington. Mrs. Dawkins, beloved wife of Steve Dawkins, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2013. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late Jim Cave Palmer and Rosa Elizabeth Walker Palmer. She was an active member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church, a 1961 graduate of BC High School, and a 1983 graduate of USC Nursing School. She worked at Southern Bell for 17 years before returning to nursing school. She retired from Lexington Medical Center where she was a Critical Care Nurse and went to work for SC Oncology. She was an advocate and frequent visitor to Moldova doing mission work in their hospitals, churches and orphanages for the last 17 years. Her life and character are summarized in Proverbs 31. Surviving in addition to her husband, Stephen R. Dawkins of West Columbia; children, Stephen W. Dawkins (Christina) of Gaston, Mike Dawkins (Kay) of West Columbia and Dee Ann Dawkins Watts (Shawn) of Pine Ridge; brother, Jim C. Palmer, Jr. (Brenda) of Gilbert; grandchildren, Stephen, Brandon, Michael, Elizabeth and Matthew Dawkins, Rachel Ann, Gabriel and Noah Dawkins, Kimber Watts Brazell (Cameron), Kayln and Kyle Watts; great-granddaughter, Kayden Brazell. She is predeceased by her half-brother Ronnie Palmer. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holland Avenue Baptist Church, 801 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033 and for the work of Mike and Kay Dawkins in Indonesia and Moldovan Missions.
