Obituary of James Godfrey

ELGIN—A memorial service for James "Jim" Godfrey, 89, of Elgin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Chapel of Agape Center on Leaphart Road. Officiating will be Chaplain Carol Rinehart and Rev. J. O. Reed. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to PAALS ("Service Dogs for Autism or Palmetto Animal Assisted Life Service") PO Box 25679, Columbia, SC 29224. Mr. Godfrey, beloved husband of the late Eva Godfrey, passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2013. Born in Gaffney, he was the son of the late R.O. Godfrey and Agnes Lucille Pridmore Godfrey. He was in the Naval Reserves and retired from Civil Service. Surviving are his daughter, Rita Rice (Greg) of Elgin; son Leon Pridmore "Prid" Godfrey of Jacksonville, FL; granddaughter, Kelly Catoe (Tim) of Heath Springs, great-grandsons, Cody Nelson, Easton Catoe and London Catoe; sister, Sudie Oswald of Allendale; and his beloved dog, Hamm. Proceeded in death by his sisters, Betty, Helen, Lee, Grace, and one brother, Sherrod.
