Obituary of Christolee Jones

WEST COLUMBIA—Christolee Sturkie Jones, of West Columbia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 14, 2013. A visitation will be held for Chris Jones on Saturday, February 16, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home in Lexington. A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 17, at 3:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church in West Columbia. Chris was born September 1, 1922 in West Columbia, SC. She is the daughter of the late Charlie and Nettie Sturkie, survived by her seven siblings (Etheridge, James, Brice, Charles, Carl, Betty, Carolyn), and preceded in death by her siblings Albert and Patricia. Chris was the wife of the late James Ray Jones, to whom she was married for 57 years. She is survived by her five beloved children and their spouses: Rev. Jimmy and Karen Jones, Rev. Danny and Susan Jones, Patt and Gary Shull, Becky and Lane Sturkie, Tim and Cindy Jones, and the late Jonathon Russell. She is also survived by her 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Chris spent much of her time involved in the ministry of her church (Ebenezer P.H.C.) as a Sunday schoolteacher, choir member, pianist, and a member of the women's ministry. She had a very generous heart and loved giving to others, especially to those in the mission field. She and her late husband played an integral part in planting a church in Africa, in remembrance of their son, Jonathon Russell. However, her true calling was in being a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. All who knew and loved Chris were blessed by her constant prayer covering. She was a mighty prayer warrior whose prayers and devotion have been stored up in Heaven, and will continued to be poured out upon all those she loved. Praise God, that on this Valentine's Day 2013, Chris was reunited with her husband, son, other family members, and the greatest love of all, Jesus Christ. Memorials, for Chris, can be made to: Christ Central Ministries, Inc., 2014 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29101.
