Obituary of Curtis R. Schumpert

COLUMBIA: Curtis R. Schumpert, 86, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013 at his home. Mr. Schumpert was born in Leesville, SC, and was the son of the late William Clarence Schumpert, Sr., and Lula Mae Anderson Schumpert. Mr. Schumpert was a retired manager and buyer at Tapp's Department Store. Prior to that he had worked at Belk's and later as the manager of Five Points Mens Shop. He also served in the Navy for a short time and had traveled with Smiley Burnett and Gene Autry as a guitarist in the band, living in California, before returning to Columbia where he stayed. Mr. Schumpert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was loved and will be missed by all of his many friends and family and all who knew him. Survivors include: his wife of 62 years, Joyce Flynn Schumpert; daughter, Tina Schumpert; sons, Manning Schumpert and wife Mary Ann, and Mark Schumpert; granddaughters, Heather and Zoe Schumpert, Molly and husband Jason Carter; grandsons, Sean and Andrew Catoe; and great granddaughters, Zadia and Ava. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association of SC, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. The family has entrusted Greenlawn Funeral Home with the arrangements. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. A service of remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Park.
