Obituary of Sidney Winstead

CAYCE: Funeral services for Sidney Francis Winstead, Sr., 85, will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. Interment will be at 2pm in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday evening at Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Agape Senior Foundation, 1053 Center St., West Columbia, SC 29169. Mr. Winstead passed away Thursday, March 7, 2013. Born in Wilson, NC, he was a son of the late William Clifton Winstead and Katie Louise Batts Winstead. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam Conflict who retired as a fuel system specialist after 26 years of service to his country. He also worked for Irvin Fuller Movie Theaters for many years. Mr. Winstead was a 32 year member of Green Hill Baptist Church; and was a member of the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother who enjoyed spending time with family and friends at White Lake, NC. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Nancy S. Winstead of Cayce; daughter, Cathy Williams (Timothy) of Lexington; sons, Sid Winstead, Jr., of West Columbia and Ronnie Winstead (Sandy) of Gaston; sister, Carolyn Davis of Wilson, NC; brothers, Thomas E. Winstead of Sumter, SC, Leon Winstead of Wilson, NC and Howard Winstead of Rocky Mount, NC; also four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Mr. Winstead was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Katie Mae Walsh and Margie Louise Spencer; and brothers, Clifton Winstead, Jr. and R. C. Wins.
