Obituary of 1st Sgt. Wilburn Wesley Vaughn

HOPKINS, SC: 1st Sgt. Wilburn Wesley "Bill" Vaughn (U.S. Army, Ret), 81, of Hunting Creek Farms, Hopkins, SC departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 9, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born in New Brockton, Alabama on March 6, 1932; the son of the late James C. and Louise Bower Vaughn. Bill graduated from Bainbridge Georgia High School. Bill served 21 years in the United States Army, 101st Airborne, having served in Korea and Vietnam. Bill retired at Fort Campbell, KY in 1969. After retirement from the Army, Bill worked in Civil Engineering at McEntire Air National Guard in Eastover, SC until he retired in 1994. Bill was married to Hazel Harley Vaughn for 43 years. He had two daughters and one son. He was predeceased in death by a son, a sister, and three brothers. Bill was a Master Mason at Fort Campbell, KY and a member of Shandon United Methodist Church. A graveside service celebrating the life of Wilburn Wesley "Bill" Vaughn will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Julie Songer-Belman officiating and full military honors will follow. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service on Saturday at Greenlawn Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shandon United Methodist Church in Bill's memory.
