Obituary of Dorothy Barrineau

WEST COLUMBIA: Funeral service for Dorothy Elsie Barrineau, 82, of West Columbia, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013, at First Baptist Church of Columbia, Boyce Chapel, officiated by Reverend Wes Church. Interment will follow in Woodridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to service in the church parlor. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington will be assisting the family. Ms. Barrineau passed away Thursday, March 14, 2013. Born in the Barrineau Community, Clarendon County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Doris William Barrineau and Susan Emma Robinson Barrineau. She was a 1948 graduate of East Clarendon High School in Turbeville, SC and a 1950 graduate of Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, GA. Upon graduation from college she began her career at Grange Mutual Fire Insurance Company in Olanta, SC. The company was moved to West Columbia in 1960 where she became CEO and remained there until she retired in 1989. She then worked for Livingston Insurance agency and later with Gibbes Mazda Volkswagon Inc. in Columbia. Following her love for working with people and being around beautiful things she founded and was President and CEO of Antiques on Meeting Street which is now Meeting Street Interiors in West Columbia. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Columbia and had a great love of the Lord, enjoying her daily devotions and watching First Baptist Church of Columbia services, especially the choir music. In her free time she enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with family, friends and her beloved "grand pup, Spencer." Survivors include: daughter, Pamela Scott, husband, Marion of Lexington; sisters, Frances "Frankie" Humphries, husband James Russell of Lake City, Lenison "Lynn" Jeffers of West Columbia and Elizabeth "Libby" Benton, husband Bill, of Charlotte, NC; brother, David Kenneth "Sonny" Barrineau of Newberry; aunts, Patricia Barrineau and Thedis Barrineau; nieces and nephews, William J. "Winky" Barrineau, Kale Barrineau, Duane Barrineau, Ira Barrineau, Cliff Barrineau, Linda Floyd, Robin Barrineau, Steven "Stevie" Barrineau, Thomas "Tom" Barrineau, Kerry Barrineau, James Russell "Russ" Humphries, Jr., Shanon "Jay" Humphries, Paige Rowland, Elizabeth "Beth" Rimmer, and Catherine "Cathy"Pancia. Ms. Barrineau was preceded in death by brothers, Charles Leo Barrineau, Joseph Carroll "Joe" Barrineau, Ira Bethea Barrineau, and William Jack Barrineau; also nieces and nephews, Ricky Barrineau, Susan Jones, Rondy Barrineau, and brother-in-law, Dothan "Bug" Jeffers and sister-in-law Bernice Barrineau. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. J Daniel Love and staff and the Hospice Care of Tri-County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbia, 1306 Hampton St., Columbia, SC 29201, or the American Lung Association, 1817 Gadsden St. Columbia, SC 29201.
