Obituary of James Owen Daniel

James "Jim" Owen Daniel, Sr. died on Friday, March 15, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Columbia, SC, he graduated from A.C. Flora High School and attended Spartanburg Methodist College. Jim worked at and owned various businesses in the Columbia area, including McDonald Printing and Mailing. An avid sports fan, Mr. Daniel's greatest delight was not only playing golf, but also watching and coaching his son's sports teams. He was always willing to help a friend in need, never asking for anything in return. Jim was a member of Kilbourne Park Baptist Church. Jim Daniel is survived by his faithful wife, Alise Moody Daniel; devoted sons, James O. Daniel, Jr. and his wife, Meg, along with their children, Sara Brooks Daniel, James Owen Daniel, III, and Rhett Spann Daniel, and Brian Christopher Daniel and his wife Ashley, along with their children, Haley Elizabeth Daniel and Brantley Christopher Daniel; mother-in-law, Frances Youngblood Moody; a host of other loving relatives and friends who will miss him dearly. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Warren Martin Daniel, Sr. and Elizabeth Brooks Daniel, as well as his brother, Warren "Danny" Martin Daniel, Jr. A celebration of life service for James "Jim" Owen Daniel, Sr. will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2013, at Kilbourne Park Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Smoak officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. on Monday until the hour of the service at the church. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Carolina Children's Home or Kilbourne Park Baptist Church in Jim's memory.
