Obituary of Curtis Joyner

CAYCE: Curtis Avon Joyner, 81, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2013. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 2 p.m., at Cayce United Methodist Church. Honorary pallbearers are The Morning Circle, The Church Choir, and The Handbells Choir. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Thompson Funeral Home of Lexington is assisting the family. Avon was born in Columbia, SC., on September 15, 1931, to James Joyner and Inez Coward Joyner. He graduated from Columbia High School in 1952. He retired in 1994 from the R.L. Bryan Company after 44 years of service. After retirement, Avon enjoyed spending time at the lake and taking trips to the mountains and the beach. He was greatly loved by his family and will be truly missed. Survivors include: his wife of 59 years, Helen Kathryn Shealy Joyner; three sons, David Brian (Susan), Scott Warren, and Mark Wayne (Laura); six grandchildren, David Brian, Jr., Kathryn Marie, Kyle Benjamin, Hannah Elizabeth, Kimberlee Miles, and Emily Paige. Mr. Joyner was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Joyner Turner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cayce United Methodist Church, Children's Wing, 1600 12th Street, Cayce, SC 29033.
